My co-founder was in the hair and beauty industry for over thirty years. She’s the only hairdresser and beauty therapist I’ve ever known to go to university and study chemistry because she was so alarmed by the breast cancer statistics (and other problems) in her industry. When we started Y natural, the hair and beauty industry had the highest incidence of breast cancer of all industries – and my co-founder was one of those ‘statistics’. She’s no longer with us, but her experience was hugely influential on the decisions we made together.

Of course a life-long beauty industry person and breast cancer survivor would want a luxurious, effective product range that was supremely healthy and beneficial to the people who use it. And of course, for me, as someone who’d studied the natural sciences in the 80s and who remains passionate about science to this day, I would want our business to protect the world in which we live. This makes perfect sense.
